'Near HERLEVILLE, East of AMIENS, during minor operation on the 15th August, 1918, this N.C.O. was in charge of two Stokes Guns. From a very exposed position and under heavy shell fire he directed the fire of his guns on to an enemy post and silenced 3 enemy Machine Guns and thus enabled the Infantry to advance and improve their positions. He displayed great courage and his work was of great value to the operation.'
