Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty on 24th April, 1918, in and about the village of HEILLY, when the village and vicinity were subjected to very heavy shell fire and all the lines cut, Sapper RACHINGER repaired the lines and restored communication between Division and Brigade Headquarters in HEILLY. In the village the main route of lines was cut in fourteen places, these were repaired by Sapper RACHINGER and he patrolled the route all day in spite of heavy shell fire, and by his skill and determination kept the Brigade in touch with the Divisional Headquarters.'
