Disembarked Alexandria, Egypt, 28 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 28 March 1916.

Admitted to 36th Casualty Clearing Station, 11 December 1916 (pneumonia); transferred to England, 24 December 1916. Admitted to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 6 February 1917; discharged on furlough,12 February 1917, to report to No. 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 27 February 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 15 November 1917.

Wounded in action, 18 September 1918 (gun shot wound, left thigh); transferred to England, 21 September 1918, and admitted to Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, 22 September 1918. Granted furlough, 16 October 1918, to report to No. 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 30 October 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Somerset', 4 December 1918; arrived Melbourne, 15 January 1919; discharged, 17 March 1919.

Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

Enlisted in the Permanent Military Forces, 20 March 1919; discharged 30 September 1939. Re-enlisted, 1 October 1939; prmoted Captain (Quarter Master), 7 May 1948.
