Military Medal 'On the night of 8th/9th June, 1917, south east of MESSINES during the consolidation of the captured enemy defences this N.C.O. did fine work in carrying important despatches to his Headquarters. He passed repeatedly through a heavy enemey barrage in ............................WOOD until he was wounded by being thrown violently against a brick wall by an exploding shell. He displayed remarkable courage throughout and assisted greatly in maintaining communication.'
