Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 21 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 27 March 1916. Taken on strength, 1st Divisional Ammunition Column, 15 May 1916.

Admitted to 36th Casualty Clearing Station, 3 December 1916 (gun shot wound, head; septic sore head); transferred by No 5 Ambulance Train to No 9 General Hospital, Rouen, 26 December 1916; to England, 27 December 1916, and admitted to 3rd Western General Hospital, Newport, Monmouthshire, 28 December 1916; to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 24 January 1917; granted furlough, 2 March 1917, to report to Training Depot, Perham Downs, 17 March 1917. Taken on strength as BQMS, Permanent Cadre, RBAA, Larkhill, 11 May 1917.
