War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 5 April 1915. Admitted to 1st Casualty Clearing Station, Anzac, 2 September 1915 (dysentery), and transferred to Mudros; to Malta, 5 September 1915, and admitted to Military Hospital, Imtarfa, 9 September 1915; discharged to active service from St Barrabus Camp, 4 January 1916, and embarked for Egypt; rejoined 8th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 13 January 1916. Transferred to, and taken on strength of, 60th Bn, 24 February 1916. Admitted to 4th Field Ambulance, 30 March 1916 (colic); transferred to No 1 Australian Stationary Hospital, Tel el Kebir, 30 March 1916; to No 1 Australian Stationary Hospital, Ismailia, 31 March 1916 (blistered feet); to 8th Field Ambulance, 31 March 1916 (constipation); discharged to unit, 1 April 1916. Found guilty, Moascar, 9 June 1916, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military displine in that he, at Moascar at about 1900 on 8 June, by attending a school where gambling was being conducted and facilitated breached Brigade Routine Orders: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Reported Missing, 19 July 1916.
