Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative in the attack on Clery, on 31st August 1918. He rushed a strong post which was checking his company, killing some of the garrison and capturing sixty men and two machine guns. Later in the day, when again held up, he pushed forward and attacked a party of the enemy with bombs, completely demoralizing them and capturing twenty three prisoners. He maintained his position under heavy fire, although his flank was in the air.'
