'At DERNANCOURT from March 27th to April 5th. For consistent good work delivering rations to front line under Machine Gun and Artillery fire. On the night of 28th March the horses in limber containing his Company rations were wounded and he assisted the driver to procure fresh horses and took rations forward. he personally supervised the rations being issued and ensured that every man had hot food each night. His work was of a very high order and his energies untiring and his devotion to his men most praiseworthy to his attention, the spirits of the men is largely due.'
