'At ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917, as a Signaller this man showed great courage, bravery, and devotion to duty by assisting to maintain telephone communication from Battalion to Brigade Headquarters. He repeatedly went out and repaired broken wires whilst the enemy was shelling the routes.'
