War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 4 May 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 9 July 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 21 November 1916. Admitted to 9th Field Ambulance, 12 December 1916; transferred to Casualty Clearing Station, 13 December 1916 (scabies); discharged to duty, 17 December 1916. Transferred to 3rd Divisional Signal Company, 6 October 1917; taken on strength from 33rd Bn, 7 October 1917, and reverted to Sapper at own request. Admitted to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 30 December 1917 (gonorrhoea); transferred to 39th General Hospital, Havre, 1 January 1918; discharged to Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 7 February 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 40 days. Rejoined unit, in the field, 15 February 1918. Detached to Auastralian Corps Liaison Force, 11 August 1918; rejoined unit from detachment, 20 August 1918.
