Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and ability. During the operations on 5th October 1918, in the attack on Montbrehain, he was in charge of a company sent forward to reinforce a brigade. With two others he went forward under heavy machine gun fire into Montbrehain, with a view to clearing up the situation, and by skilful sniping accounted for several of the enemy. He then, with a number of the brigade men, established posts on the outer edge of the village, thus making it unnecessary to bring up his company. He did fine work.'
