Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry on the 10th day of August 1918 at LIHONS. During the attack when the neighbouring unit's right flank was unprotected and suffering very severe casualties from enfilade Machine Gun fire, this soldier and another man crawled forward over very flat country for 200 yards under a hail of bullets and successfully engaged and silenced two hostile Machine Guns, thus enabling the unprotected flank to move forward and establish itself. Later in the day, when his entire gun crew became casualties, he advanced alone (carrying his gun and own ammunition) and establishing himself in a commanding position on the flank, succeeded in keeping down the fire of two hostile Machine Guns which were eventually captured by his advancing Coy. His daring and initiative was of the highest order. '

During the advance after all his section had become casualties, this soldier carrying his Lewis Gun and panniers crept forward and silenced and captured two enemy Machine Guns that were inflicting heavy casualties on his men. Later on, when final objective had been reached, under a hail of Machine Gun bullets he crept forward alone and gave covering fire while the rest of his platoon consolidated.'
