Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in command of his battalion during an attack. After winning his objective, he crawled out into "No Man Land" reconnoitred the ground, and pushed his line forward again. Next day he personally directed the mopping up of an enemy post, and under close range machine gun fire supervised the consolidation of newly won posts. He set a fine example to his command.'
