Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations of the 26th/27th August which resulted in the capture of FOUCAUCOURT, and our line being advanced beyond ESTREES. This man led a section of the support Company skilfully and with determination throughout the operations. On the 27th August his Platoon went forward to re-inforce the front line, and there he showed good leadership and bold action which greatly assisted the advance. On the 28th, prior to the 31st Battalion moving through this Unit, he led a reconnoitring patrol out under heavy machine gun fire and obtained information for that Unit. His boldness of action, and determination carried him through, and he was successful in obtaining the point of resistance, and numbers of enemy holding same, which information was of great value to the advancing troops. His patrol returned without suffering any casualties, although under continuous machine gun fire for over two hours, and this fact must be largely attributed to his splendid leadership.'
