On the 5th April 1918 during the attack on our line opposite DERNANCOURT, this N.C.O. - who was in charge of a gun - displayed great courage and steadiness. The Battery was under heavy fire but continued in action throughout the day. By his fine example, fearless bearing and energy, this N.C.O. ensured the continued and rapid fire of his gun throughout this critical period and set a splendid example to his detachment.'
