Military Medal

'During the First Australian Divisional Offensive on 23rd August, 1918, whilst in charge of Stretcher Bearers on No. 3 Ambulance Field Ambulance attached to 12th Australian Infantry Battalion he showed great initiative in organising his squads and evacuating wounded throughout the whole action. On 23th August, 1918, when the Regimental Aid Post of the 12th Australian Infantry Battalion was subjected to heavy shell fire, one shell bursting on it and wounding many men there, he showed great coolness and initiative organising his squads and affecting a rapid clearance.'
