War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Detailed to Permanent Beach Party, Gallipoli, 8 July 1915. Joined 2nd Bn, Lemnos, from Beach Party, 24 December 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 28 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation). On Command, Kit Bag escort to Cairo, 16 February 1916; rejoined 2nd Bn, Tel el Kebir, from On Command, 20 February 1916. Found guilty, 4 March 1916, damaging his rifle to the extent of 3/-: admonished and ordered to pay 3/-. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 28 March 1916. On leave to England (date not recorded); found guilty, 24 June 1916, of (1) failing to report at Waterloo Railway Station at 4 pm, 18 June, for return to France; (2) being absent on 21 and 22 June 1916: awarded 168 hours' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 2 days' pay; Police Court expenses: 2/-.
