Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 31 August 1918, at Mont St. Quentin, when the advance of his company was held up by a machine gun post. Instructing his section to keep up a frontal fire on the post, he worked round the flank to within bombing distance, and successfully silenced it. Later on, he rushed and killed a sniper, and bringing up the rest of his section, seized the entrance to two dug outs, capturing twenty prisoners.'
