Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack south of Vendhuille, on 29 September, 1918. Through the operation his battery was under heavy artillery and machine gun fire, and the whole of his detachment became casualties. Notwithstanding this, he continued to serve his gun alone, until a new detachment could be organized. It was due to his personal efforts that the battery was able to maintain the effective barrage.'
