Embarked Melbourne, 10 May1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, 28 July 1917, and marched in to 1st Training Bn, Durrington.

Proceeded overseas to France, 5 February 1918; taken on strength, 3rd Bn, in the field, 15 February 1918.

Admitted to 1st Field Ambulance, South Midlands Division, 1 March 1918; transferred same day to 2nd British Casualty Clearing Station (appendicitis); to 54th General Hospital, 6 March 1918; to No 1 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 11 March 1918; to No 5 Rest Camp, 12 March 1918; to Australian Infantry Base Depot, 15 March 1918; rejoined unit, 25 April 1918.

Killed in action, 24 May 1918.

Mother wrote to Base Records, 29 June 1918: ‘Will you please let me know if possible if he was killed instantly or if he was suffering for any time,also where he is buried & the name of the place where he died, & will you kindly let me know if I could get his few things that he took from home with him … I am sorry to put you to any trouble, but I would like to know all I can about his death.’
