'During operations near VILLERS BRETONNEUX on night 25th/26th April, in a local advance to improve our position, RIGG showed great bravery and devotion to duty. He went forward with his machine gun in the advance and was blown up by a shell and badly shaken, he refused to leave and eventually brought his gun into action in the front line covering the infantry during consolidation. By his brave determination and devotion to duty he set his gun team a splendid example.'
