Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Ahvay, on 9 November, 1918, when his patrol came under heavy machine gun fire. He instructed his patrol to maintain a continuous fire on the enemy machine gun, and then, single handed, and with the greatest courage, he made his way to their rear, and caused such casualties to the gun crews that they scattered, leaving two guns behind.'
