'During the operations at WESTHOEK East of YPRES and the area forward of this site, on 4th October 1917, L/Cpl. RIXON showed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty under most trying conditions of shell and machine gun fire and rain and mud, while helping to remove the wounded to places of safety. He continually carried through the barrage fire and when his squad was broken up by casualties occuring, he formed fresh squads, and at times carried wounded pick-a-back to the Aid Post. He set a very high standard of duty.'
