'For gallant service on night of 4th/6th March, 1918, during raid onk enemy trenches in vicinity of WARNETON. This man was one of the right party detailed to mop up the enemy support trench. His Corporal placed him in charge of half the party. He rushed his portion of the trench chasing the enemy out into shell-holes where he and his men despatched a number. His courageous and determined fighting very materially helped the Right Assault.'
