Military Medal 'Showed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty whilst acting as telephonist to an F.O.O. during the attack on PASSCHENDAELE RIDGE on the 4th October. Gunner ROBERTS established a visual Signalling Station and under heavy shell fire communicated with the Group O.P., transmitting several important messages. his Officer being severely wounded and his comrade killed, he still continued at his post and was enabled to advise Group of his Officer being a casualty, thus securing a relief who, later in the day, gained most valuable information. His messages were sent whilst subjected to heavy enemy shell-fire. His action was a splendid example of devotion to duty.'
