War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 11 May 1917, with (Voyage Only) rank of Sergeant; disembarked Devonport, England, 20 July 1917, and marched into 6th Training Bn, Rollestone. Appointed Acting Sergeant, 19 September 1917; reverted to the ranks, 29 September 1917, and same day appointed Acting Lance Corporal. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 November 1917; joined 21st Bn, in the field, 14 November 1917. On leave to Paris, 2 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 11 March 1918. Killed in action, 1 September 1918. 'Buried in an isolated group of graves in a shell hole in a valley near a lane, just E. of Mont St Quentin, & 1 mile N. of Peronne.'
