War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Disembarked Alexandria from Mudros, 9 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Found guilty, Ismailia, 19 February 1916, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he when remonstrated with Sgt Bracker for not standing to attention, answered him back: awarded 18 days' Field Punishment No 2. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 14 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 19 March 1916. Found guilty, Hazebrouck, 7 April 1916, of being in town without a pass: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2. Wounded in action, 5 August 1916 (gun shot wound, left hand), and admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 11th General Hospital, 5 August 1916; transferred to England, 12 August 1916 (hospital details not recorded). Granted furlough, 4 October 1916; marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, from furlough, 3 October 1916.
