Distinguished Conduct Medal From 25 February to 16 September 1918, he has acted both in the capacity of company sergeant major and regimental sergeant major, and in both positions particularly that of regimental sergeant major, has shown great zeal and energy in the performance of his duties. He invariably visited the companies in the forward areas and insured that rations and supplies had arrived. The thoroughness with which he organized ration and other carrying parties did much towards the successful administration of the battalion. He has set an invariable example of coolness and devotion to duty under fire.'
