Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leading his section to the final objective after his platoon commander was killed, and digging in on an exposed flank. On his own initiative he took out a patrol, located two enemy machine guns, and captured two prisoners. Compelled by our barrage to return, he did so with great skill, having only two casualties.'
