War service: embarked from Sydney, 11 May 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 10 July 1916. Found guilty, 26 August 1916, of being absent without a pass: awarded 4 days Field Punishment No. 2 and forfeiture of 7 days' pay. Found guilty of being absent without leave, Larkhill Camp, midnight, 14 November, to midnight, 15 November 1916: awarded forfeiture of 1 day's pay. Proceeded overseas to France via Southampton, 23 November 1916. Detached for duty with 35th Bn in the field, 7 January 1917. Admitted sick to hospital, France, 29 August 1917; rejoined unit, 3 September 1917. Wounded in action (scalp wound, gas shell poisoning, severe), 13 October 1917; invalided to United Kingdom, 20 October 1917; admitted to Military Hospital, Devonport, 24 October 1917.
