Distinguished Conduct Medal

'Near Montbrehain, on 5 October, 1918, when his company was held up by a machine gun post, he rushed forward with a Lewis gun, and, single handed, killed the garrison of eight. Later, he took the captured gun forward and used it with effect from an advantageous position where the line was thinly held. He did fine work.'
