Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer was in command of a company on the left of the line, when the enemy, who had broken through a gap on the right, attacked it from front and rear, effecting a lodgment after severe fighting in his trench. He promptly organized a strong counter attack, dislodging the enemy, killing about sixty, and taking about fifty prisoners. His quick initiative did much towards the success of the operation.'
