'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack North-West of BONY on 28th September, 1918, Private ROSE was a member of a gun team which came under very heavy shell fire and suffered several casualties. Through his untiring efforts his gun was go into action at a critical time. Having succeeded in his task he went back and carried his wounded comrades to a place of safety, displaying a spirit of self sacrifice and devotion, and earning for him the gratitude and respect of his comrades. Private ROSE has served with the 10th Australian Machine Gun Company since it arrived in FRANCE in November 1916, and has rendered consistently good service.'
