Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while employed with Bangalore torpedoes during a raid. He got right up to the enemy's wire without being observed, but almost immediately after an enemy bomb landed in the wire, between the two torpedoes. Notwithstanding the danger from explosion, he remained absolutely quiet. His cool behaviour enabled his party to successfully surprise the enemy.'
