Military Medal 'On 1st September 1918 during the attack on PERONNE he quickly established signal communication with advanced Battalion Headquarters and succeeded in maintaining same throughout the operation. owing to the exceptionally heavy shell fire the lines were frequently cut and on each occasion he went forward through an intense barrage and effected the necessary repairs. In addition to this he carried out his duties as Signaller at Advanced Battalion Headquarters in a most efficient manner despite the fact that he was suffering from the effects of sneezing gas. His tireless energy, gallantry and devotion to duty were remarkable. On 2nd September 1918 during the second attack he again maintained communication and on two occasions passed through exceptionally heavy shell and Machine Gun barrages to re-establish connection. I cannot speak too highly of this N.C.O.'s courage and devotion to duty, and his soldierly qualities, and I strongly recommend him for the Military Medal.'
