'While acting as company commander on the 29th September 1918, he showed great coolness and devotion to duty on the main road between Ronssoy and Bony, under heavy fire. He also carried out forward reconnaissances, enabling reports of the condition of roads to be forwarded expeditiously. Throughout the operations his personal example inspired his men to complete the work in hand.'
