Military Medal 'After capture of the objective on 4th October, 1917, regardless of his personal safety he moved along the Company front encouraging and directing the men on the consolidation. Under the heaviest shell fire later in the day he moved about in the open carrying wounded men to safety. During the latter portion of the operations when the men were physically exhausted with fatigue and exposure, although temporarily incapiciated by being buried he remained on duty until the relief arrived. His coolness and gallantry throughout set an splendid example to all.'
