Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the advance this officer rushed an enemy pill box single handed engaging them with bombs killing some of the garrison and capturing the remainder. Later, on his company commander becoming a casualty, he took over the command, and carried out a relief under heavy shell fire. Throughout his courage and coolness were a fine example to all ranks.'
