Embarked Adelaide, 7 November 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 9 January 1917, and marched into 3rd Training Bn.

Admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, 26 January 1917 (influenza); discharged to duty, 5 February 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 3 May 1917; joined 10th Bn, in the field, 14 May 1917.

Wounded in action, 20-21 September 1917 (gun shot wound, right forearm), and admitted to 32nd Casualty Clearing Station, and transferred to 18th General Hospital, Camiers; to No 6 Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 8 October 1917. to Base Depot, Etaples, 10 October 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 18 October 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 25 February 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 13 March 1918.

Admitted to No 1 Australian Field Ambulance, 23 March 1918 (venereal disease: gonorrhoea), and transferred to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station; to 39th General Hospital, Havre, 23 March 1918; discharged to Base Depot, 16 May 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 55 days.

Rejoined unit, in the field, 4 June 1918.

Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 11 August 1918 (acute asthma); transferred to 55th Casualty Clearing Station, 13 August 1918; to 2nd Canadian General Hospital, 16 August 1918 (asthma and exhaustion); to Base Depot, Havre, 27 August 1918 (neurasthenia and age).
