Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery during the operations east of YPRES from 30th September to 9th October, 1917 Pte. ROWLINGS acted as runner during the operations and several times had to pass through the enemy's heavy barrages with important messages for the working of the Battery. He showed great courage on 4th October prior to the advance, carrying messages to the guns. Despite the bad weather conditions and the extreme severity of the enemy barrages he carried out his duties admirably and delivered every message he was entrusted with, thus enabling the battery to cary out the work allotted to it. He showed great determination and courage during the whole of the operations and his conduct under very heavy fire set a fine example to his comrades.'
