'This N.C.O. who is a stretcher bearer is brought under notice for valour and devotion to duty during operations near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917. His work was uniformly good throughout the attack. Again and again he went out between the Red and Blue Lines, over ground swept by machine gun and artillery fire to render first aid, and bring in wounded men. With an absolute disregard of personal risk he carried on with this work for many hours and was always cheerful under the most trying circumstances. He is recommended for distinction.'
