Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For marked courage and leadership. He has been with the battalion since its arrival in France, and he has at all times done excellent work. On the 8 August, 1918, during operations east of Hamel, he led his section with great gallantry. In two cases he mopped up enemy machine guns which were holding up the advance. On the 2 September, 1918, during operations north of Peronne, he again led his section with great dash, and succeeded by his tactful handling of his men in bombing out a number of enemy from a strong post, and captured twenty prisoners.'
