Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the period 16th September, 1918 to 11th November, 1918. During the operations West of ALLAINES on 2nd September, 1918, he took over his Platoon after his Platoon Commander had been killed. His Platoon was ordered to clear up a part of a trench system (SCUTARI TRENCH). He led his Platoon forward fighting his way and bombing for a period of nearly an hour, and eventually overcame a very stiff opposition to the advance. After the trench had been captured he quickly re-organised and established his line. Throughout the period he displayed a fine spirit of dash and coolness.'
