Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. His company was heavily shelled, and the company commander was killed on the way to the assembly position for an attack. He took command of the company, got his men into position, and led them with great dash and initiative to the final objective. Though wounded early in the operations he remained at his post until the position was consolidated and secured against counter attack.'
