Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When acting as troop leader in an important reconnaissance, his tro9op was heavily attacked by a strong enemy force. Realizing that it was essential to hold ground, he took up a position of great tactical advantage, and, though subjected to heavy shell, machine gun, and rifle fire, held his ground for five hours until the remainder of his squadron returned. He displayed marked gallantry, initiative and determination.'
