Military Medal 'This Non-Commissioned Officer showed great gallantry and devotion to duty whilst acting as Telephonist with the Forward Observing Officer during the operations in the attack of the PASSCHENDAELE RIDGE on the 4th October, 1917. He, although severely shaken by an enemy shell, held to the Officer with whom he was detailed for duty and was enabled at very great personal risk to transmit messages of importance to Group headquarters. Later he assisted the return of his Officer who had become wounded, thus enabling him to make a report of considerable value. Throughout the day he was subjected to continuous heavy fire.'
