Military Medal 'During the attack East of VILLERS BRETONNEUX, near AMIENS, on the morning of August 8th 1918, this man was No. 1 of a Lewis Gun team in support to a Company advancing along the northern side of the railway. A party of Canadians working along the cutting, called for assistance, and Private Sanders immediately pushed out to the edge of the railway embankment, and found they were held up by machine gun fire. He at once brought his gun into action, and in a very short time silenced the hostile gun, this enabling the remainder of his party to cross the line and capture 30 prisoners and 2 machine guns. On another occasion, noticing the troops South of the railway being held up by machine gun fire, he again went out to the flank and engaged the enemy, with the result that the enemy directed their fire on to Sanders himself. He continued to fire until the troops on the flank were able to advance close enough to silence the post with bombs. His courageous conduct was outstanding.'
