Military Medal

'At HOOGE, FRANCE on 20th September, 1917, during the attack on GLENCORSE WOOD, Pte. SANFORD showed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He belonged to a Lewis Gun Team the N.C.O. and remaining crew of which became casualties. He immediately gathered together another crew and carried on with great skill and determination under the most trying conditions. He assisted greatly in the attack and inflicted severe losses on the enemy.'
