Military Medal 'Whilst Corporals RITTER and BROWSE were holding off the counter attack in STORMY TRENCH north east of GUEUDECOURT on the night 11th/12th February, 1917, this man, knowing they were short of bombs, of his own initiative, carried up several loads of bombs to them, having to travel on the top of the parapet under heavy fire to do so. Again when the leader of the rifle grenade party was killed he immediately took command of the party and led them in a very able manner, thus saving a great deal of confusion and materially aiding in the success of the operations.'
