Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 23 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 30 March 1916.

Wounded in action (undated: gun shot wound, right arm); admitted to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 29 July 1916; transferred to England, 6 August 1916, and admitted to Northumberland War Hospital (date not recorded); transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 9 October 1916; discharged (date not recorded) and marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 3 November 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Kanowna', 14 January 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 8 March 1917; discharged (medically unfit), Melbourne, 19 June 1917.
